01 / Our Acknowledgment
The land has a history, and a present.
Four Media Group (FMG) acknowledges that our work in Kenai and Soldotna takes place on Yaghanen, the homeland of the Kahtnuht’ana Dena’ina, the people of the Kenai River. We recognize the Kenaitze Indian Tribe and the continuing Dena’ina relationships with these lands and waters.
Our work in Anchorage takes place on Dena’ina Ełnena, the ancestral and present-day homeland of the Dena’ina people. We recognize the Eklutna Dena’ina, including the Native Village of Eklutna, and their continuing presence and stewardship.
We honor the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these places since time immemorial, their Elders and ancestors, and the generations who carry their languages, knowledge, and communities forward.
02 / Across Alaska
Every community is distinct.
FMG serves communities throughout Alaska, across many distinct Indigenous homelands. This acknowledgment names the places central to our work; it is not a substitute for learning the local peoples, languages, and place names of each community where we work. We respect the sovereignty and continuing cultural life of Alaska Native peoples.
03 / Beyond Words
A commitment to respectful work.
Acknowledgment is a starting point, not a completed action. As a creative and digital studio, our responsibility includes how we research, design, photograph, write, and publish.
- Use community-specific names and information with care and verify them against appropriate sources.
- Seek permission before using cultural artwork, stories, imagery, or other materials that are not ours to represent.
- Listen to community feedback and correct errors when they are identified.
- Respect Alaska Native sovereignty and recognize Indigenous peoples as present-day communities, not only as part of the past.
